Practical Business Examples
Applying Your Skills to Real-World Scenarios
The best way to learn Excel is by doing. Below are two foundational business cases that combine math, logic, and formatting.
Example 1: The Student Marksheet
A marksheet is a perfect way to practice SUM, AVERAGE, and IF.
| Name | Math | Science | Total | Result |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Arjun | 85 | 90 | 175 | Pass |
Logic: Total uses =SUM(B2:C2). Result uses =IF(D2>=70, "Pass", "Fail").
Example 2: The Sales Report
A sales report teaches you Basic Math and Currency Formatting.
| Product | Qty (B2) | Price (C2) | Total (D2) |
|---|---|---|---|
| Laptop | 5 | $45,000 | $225,000 |
Formula in D2: =B2 * C2 (Quantity multiplied by Price).

💡 Skill Eco Final Pro-Tip: The Formula Bar
When looking at a finished report, always look at the Formula Bar at the top. The cell might show "Pass," but the Formula Bar will show you the IF logic that created that result. Studying other people's formulas is the fastest way to become an expert!
